Cooking is a life skill—not an elective

Hi Reader

As we settle into another homeschool year, I keep thinking about the subjects our children will actually use for the rest of their lives.

Cooking is absolutely one of them.

The kitchen naturally teaches math, reading, science, planning, responsibility, and problem-solving—but it also teaches something even more important:

“I can do this.”

That’s why I created Junior Cooking Club.

It’s a complete, self-paced cooking course that begins with the basics—kitchen safety, reading recipes, measuring, cracking eggs, and using kitchen tools—and gradually works toward breads, breakfasts, homemade snacks, sauces, and complete family meals.

Inside, your child receives:

  • 70+ step-by-step cooking videos
  • 100+ from-scratch recipes
  • 10 complete learning modules
  • A printable workbook and kitchen resources
  • Lifetime access

You can use it once a week as a hands-on homeschool subject, work through it as a semester course, or simply let your child learn at a pace that fits your family.

Because long after the worksheets are finished and the textbooks are put away, our children will still need to know how to feed themselves and care for others.

Not quite ready to join? Your child can try a complete lesson for free and learn to make Fluffy Garlic Butter Breadsticks:

Let’s raise capable kids—one recipe and one slightly messy kitchen at a time.

Over the years, I’ve built a life rooted in growing, making, and doing — and I love sharing what we do and how we do it to help others create their own empowered path.

Laura Lawrence Hi Reader Our holiday weekend was spent doing what holiday weekends apparently look like around here—processing chickens and canning broth. I found 14 quarts’ worth of broth hiding in the freezer, so I canned all of that just in time to make room for the chickens we processed on Sunday. This was our second round of meat chickens this year, and luckily, the kids did most of the work. We’ll have to surprise them with a little extra money as a bonus because they did a boatload of...

Laura Lawrence Hi Reader What is taking over your kitchen counters right now? Zukes? Maters? Beans? Peppers? Herbs? Around here, it is a little bit of everything. The zucchini keeps coming, so we’re making creamy zucchini soup, zucchini spaghetti, chocolate zucchini cake, and shredding plenty for the freezer. The tomatoes are becoming fresh BLTs, roasted spaghetti sauce, and jars of canned tomato sauce for winter. The herbs are being gathered, dehydrated, turned into tinctures, infused into...
