Is your garden looking a little...chaotic?

Laura Lawrence

Hey guys!

Anybody else's garden looking a little wild right about now? 😂

By late summer, my garden is definitely NOT the perfectly manicured garden you see in magazines.

Things are growing through fences.

Squash vines are going everywhere.

Zucchini are getting ridiculously huge.

Beans are drying on the vine.

Broccoli is flowering.

And honestly?

Some of that is completely intentional.

I pulled out this late-summer garden tour because it's such a good look at what a productive garden can actually look like this time of year.

I'm leaving some of those giant zucchini to mature so I can save the seeds.

I'm letting some of my purple podded pole beans get big, dry and brittle for next year's garden.

The broccoli flowers are feeding the pollinators.

And somewhere underneath all those crazy squash vines are pumpkins just waiting to be discovered. 😂

There's even a little wine cap mushroom experiment happening back there.

This is real-life gardening.

There are worms. There are blemishes. Things get overgrown. Sometimes something gets funky.

But there's also a whole lot of FOOD growing in that beautiful mess.

So if your August garden is starting to look a little unruly, come walk through mine with me.

You might feel a whole lot better about yours. 😂

What's taking over YOUR garden right now?

Happy growing!

Laura Lawrence Hi Reader Our holiday weekend was spent doing what holiday weekends apparently look like around here—processing chickens and canning broth. I found 14 quarts’ worth of broth hiding in the freezer, so I canned all of that just in time to make room for the chickens we processed on Sunday. This was our second round of meat chickens this year, and luckily, the kids did most of the work. We’ll have to surprise them with a little extra money as a bonus because they did a boatload of...

Laura Lawrence Hi Reader What is taking over your kitchen counters right now? Zukes? Maters? Beans? Peppers? Herbs? Around here, it is a little bit of everything. The zucchini keeps coming, so we’re making creamy zucchini soup, zucchini spaghetti, chocolate zucchini cake, and shredding plenty for the freezer. The tomatoes are becoming fresh BLTs, roasted spaghetti sauce, and jars of canned tomato sauce for winter. The herbs are being gathered, dehydrated, turned into tinctures, infused into...
