Surviving is the common theme - so much snow & no oven.

Welcome to the root's revival with Food Prood; where we are going back to our roots and learning old fashioned ways in a modern world.

Hi Reader

Oh hello spring, no wait winter, no wait, spring? With all the ice, snow, rain, and sometimes that glorious sunshine peeking through has my head whipping back and forth. How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Northern Michigan in the snow belt, specifically the buckle of the snow belt at our location has been hit pretty hard this year. The snow has been very powdery but accumulating like nuts. We have more than the nearest city due to how we're situated. Raking the roof becomes common, removing the ice dams before to much damage happens. Trying to keep enough area plowed to feed animals, but we are running out of room!

It's a whole different world, even if the world was only a half an hour away. Lake effect is a serious thing. Microclimates play a lot into it.

Trying to survive is a common feeling.

The house is warm, the food is plenty and the kids are loving the mile high snow piles.

Glass half full... of snow that is.

PLUS my oven has been out for weeks, oh my goodness the saga continues. The oven is a great one, it's a built in one that they of course no longer make parts for, nor can we acquire what we need. So we sent off the board thingy to get fixed, they fixed it and sent it back very poorly packaged, it broke. Now we are in a battle to get them to replace.

It has been a challenge but one I have been fine with figuring out how to cook from scratch 3 meals a day x 7 days x several weeks with no oven. It's been quite doable, but I do miss making my sourdough bread creations (which my husband is thankful).
